SPIRITUAL FORMATION

The Catholic Faith is part of AMASC's DNA, even though Sacred Heart schools now welcome students - boys and girls - from other religions or beliefs in the world in almost every country. The evangelical values that are professed here are universal and offered to everyone, and in classrooms students learn to live together and respect.

The founding intention of the Sacred Heart was to educate committed women whose faith would continue to be formed at the end of their schooling.

And since the beginning, several World Congresses of the AMASC stress in their resolutions this need of Christian formation of the alumni: « The members of the AMASC aspire to an assistance in the development of their spiritual life: thorough understanding of the principles of Vatican II current theological thought, study of the scriptures. As former members of the Sacred Heart and collaborators of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart in their desire to spread the glory of God, we call the Society of the Sacred Heart to help us, in every way possible, to become more women. fully aware of God's presence in our lives »(7th AMASC Congress in San Francisco, April 20-25, 1982).

Along with each newly elected Board of Directors, a nun is called to become a spiritual advisor and at the same time serves as a link with the Society of the Sacred Heart. It brings to all an illumination of faith on the great events of the liturgical life or the association, and advises the executive office in the preparation of the theme of the future world congress to which all the world associations are invited to participate.

Sr Dolores Aleixandre, rscj Spanish, is the AMASC spiritual advisor for this 2018-2022 mandate. She is the author of many spiritual works, including “Bautizados con fuego”*, which is one of Pope Francis' favourite readings.

* This book was published in French under the title “Baptisés dans le feu” (Baptized in the Fire), but to our knowledge not in English.
